MEGURO

Tokyo

Directly on the YAMANOTE-line with easy access to many places in Tokyo, Meguro is another area of Tokyo with many places to visit. The name Meguro is derived from a black-eyed statue at the famous RYUSENJI temple, another must-see place. During the spring season, you can see cherry blossoms along the Meguro river both day and night. It is not too famous as a tourist spot but there are some great places to see. Start your day at the local bakery by the river, try your luck at the temple, see Japanese arts and a traditional Japanese garden. For lunch, enjoy good RAMEN (Japanese noodle soup) and take a walk down a street full of furniture shops.

The recommended one-day plan around the area.

8:30AM - OGGI 1
COFFEE AND PASTRIES FROM THE LOCAL BAKERY

OGGI is a bakery shop five minutes walk from the station right next to the Meguro River. You can enjoy their coffee for only JPY 180 with a selection of pastries and breads. There is a small seating area and in the spring time you can see the cherry blossoms whilst you eat your breakfast here. Recommendation is the ANPAN (red bean stuffed in bread).

9:30AM - DAIENJI AND GAJOEN 2
TRY YOUR LUCK AT THE TEMPLE

DAIENJI Temple is located along a steep slope called GYONIN-ZAKA. You can try your luck by drawing a fortune slip based on the stick number that you pull out. The slip will describe your fortune in many aspects inclusing love, work, health and wealth. You should give it a try, GOOD LUCK! After, you can see beautiful Japanese arts and take pictures in a Japanese garden at MEGURO GAJOEN.

There are many places to eat RAMEN in Meguro, but one that you shouldn't miss out is MENYA KURO. The place serves IEKEI RAMEN (pork based soup) and you can choose the hardness of your RAMEN noodles. MENYA KURO is also visited by many celebrities so if you are lucky you might meet someone!
