A day in Nagoya

The recommended one-day plan around the area.

8:30AM - LYON 1
"MORNING" AT A LOCAL COFFEE SHOP

"Morning" service is the breakfast culture for locals in Aichi. Order a regular coffee or drink in most shops and restaurants and you get for example butter toast and jam for free!

Here at LYON, you get hot pressed sandwiches with a filling of your choice from the menu. LYON offers this service not just during breakfast hours but all day so you can visit any time if you are feeling a little hungry.

10:00AM - NAGOYA CASTLE 2
WALK AROUND THE BEAUTIFUL CASTLE

Rebuilt in 1959 after the castle was burned down during the second world war, Nagoya Castle is famous for its golden dolphins known as "SHACHI HOKO" which are sitting on the roof of the castle. From the top floor of the castle you can see a panorama view of the Nagoya city and feel like IEYASU TOKUNAGA a SHOGUN from the SENGOKU period.

13:30PM - ICHIBIKI 3
GRILLED EEL AICHI STYLE

Aichi is the top producer of eel and HITSUMABUSHI is grilled eel on a wooden bowl of rice, eaten the Aichi way. ICHIBIKI is a popular restaurant and you will most likely have to queue up. If you go too late then the eel will run out of stock! In one bowl you can enjoy 3 tastes; eat the eel and rice as is, eat with some condiments (WASABI, NORI seaweed etc) or with green tea/broth poured over. If you are unsure of how you should enjoy this dish, ask the waiter/waitress!

15:00PM - SAKAE AND PLANETARIUM 4
SHOPPING AND LEARN ABOUT THE NIGHT SKY

SAKAE is a popular shopping district in the heart of Nagoya, just 2 stops away from Nagoya station and one stop away from FUSHIMI station. Between SAKAE and FUSHIMI is the Nagoya City Science Museum featuring the world's biggest planetarium with a diameter of 35 meters.

19:00PM - MISEN 5
SPICY RAMEN NOODLES

Try the spicy "Taiwanese Ramen" from MISEN which is known as a speciality in Nagoya. It's so spicy and hot it will make you sweat a lot but it is so addictive and a must try dish! It's topped with ground pork, chives and sprouts and even the soup is delicious that you are likely to empty your bowl.
